Jo Gane and the Coventry Biennial Cycle Club pinhole camera workshop
At HERE, an event that we recently delivered with the University of Warwick we announced that we’d be working with Compton Verney Art Gallery & Park on an ambitious, co-created project with Nuneaton-based artist Jo Gane.
During that event we also promoted the upcoming meetings of the Coventry Biennial Cycle Club, a programme that is designed to connect people with artists and cultural institutions in Coventry and Warwickshire in a social way that benefits health, wellbeing and promotes mutual support.
Since that event Jo has been busy developing her new project with Nuneaton residents and during a recent outing of our Cycle Club we were lucky enough to get to visit her studio and see these artworks in-progress. Jo and her family then joined our group and led us to a nearby park where we completed a pinhole camera activity as a part of Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day.

“Jo’s approach to photography is deeply collaborative and accessible, the session that she developed and led for the Cycle Club was enjoyed by all of the participants and allowed us to experiment with photographing our bikes, our surroundings and each other in a way that many might not have been able to do before. Additionally the route that Jo helped design took in much of the beautiful countryside that surrounds Coventry and was a slightly challenging but welcome break from traffic and traffic lights!”

The next Coventry Biennial Cycle Club, delivered in partnership with Shift Cycling Culture is meeting on the 28 May.

Coventry Biennial Cycle Club has been developed through research carried out as part of Spatial Practices in Art and Architecture for Empathetic Exchange (SPACEX) a project that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE).
