MON 7th OCT
VISUAL ARTS ROUNDTABLE
Coventry Transport Museum, 6 pm – 9 pm
This Visual Arts Roundtable event, hosted by the City of Culture Trust aims to contribute to and develop key discussions about the Visual Arts in the City and region including:
How can we raise the profile of the Visual Arts in Coventry and how can the City of Culture Trust celebrate the Visual Arts?
How can we be inclusive and develop a wider offer, increasing engagement in the Visual Arts and supporting the development of visual artists in our city?
How can we work together to make the Visual Arts in Coventry engaging and relevant to all of Coventry’s citizens?
How can Visual Artists make the most of the international platform the City of Culture year has to offer?
TUES 8th OCT & FRI 11 OCT
THE GLEANER’S LIBRARY
The Pod: Bob and Roberta Smith’s Shed, 12 pm – 5 pm
Edinburgh-based artist and ‘cosmoecologist’ Alix Villanueva is interested in the use of the strange and the folkloric within ecological thought.
As a part of her residency across The Pod’s diverse sites, Alix is transforming Bob and Roberta Smith’s Shed into a reading + discussion space. Visitors will be able to browse the Pod’s Zine Library as well as additional reading and visual materials which Alix is using during her residency.
WED 9th OCT
WATCH WITH US: WAYS OF SOMETHING
Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, 6 pm – 8 pm
“Ways of Something” is a collaborative moving image artwork in four episodes, compiled and curated by Canadian artist Lorna Mills.
The artwork consists of 113 one minute long videos, each made by a different artist from around the world. Bringing together 3D rendering, animated GIFs, film remixes and mash-ups, webcam performances and websites the project highlights the cacophonous conditions of artmaking after the internet.
The film follows the narrative of John Berger’s 1972 BBC documentary “Ways of Seeing” but replaces the visuals with more contemporary imagery. Presented in partnership with Film Hub Midlands.
WED 9th OCT
CV5 CEILIDH
The Pod Allotment, 3.30 pm – 7 pm
As a part of her residency across The Pod’s diverse sites, Alix is presenting the CV5 Ceilidh.
From 3.30 visitors will be taking part in the work party, joining the allotment session, contributing to the growth and harvesting of crops. Then from 5.30 pm – 7 pm, we will build a bonfire and share stories, readings, songs, ceilidh-style!
Ceilidhs are Scottish and Irish social gatherings, which, contrary to popular belief, are not solely about dancing. They often involve storytelling and sharing with one another.
Participants are encouraged to bring stories, songs or poems to share.
FRI 11th OCT
EAT WITH US: SUPPER CLUB
The Pod Café, 5.30 pm – 8.30 pm
At this Supper Club, you will be able to meet artists and team members from the Biennial.
The Pod Café team will be cooking up a wonderfully wholesome and imaginative plant-based menu with many of the ingredients coming from our allotment, and the evening will be punctuated by live music. Our Supper Clubs are ‘shared table’ and mixed seating to ensure that you meet new people.
Tickets cost £12.50 per person (or £9 for current Secret Knock Subscribers and active Time Union / Food Union Members)

SAT 12th OCT
MAKE WITH US: JONNY BARK, FAMILY WORKSHOP
The Row, 11 am – 2 pm
Join us and explore Jonny Barks’ new installation as part of this years’ Coventry Biennial through this fun, insightful, hands-on family art workshop. Looking at the transformation of turning trees into paper you will use a variety of materials and techniques to create your own handmade paper.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Drop-in, ages 5+.

SAT 12th OCT
STITCH WITH US: WILDFLOSS ABSTRACT EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP
Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, 12 pm – 3.30 pm
Perfect for all abilities, artist Ruth Hughes will show you basic stitching techniques and help you to create your own individual and unique piece of artwork.
Using a wide variety of textured yarns, threads and beads, you will experiment with colour, create texture and develop contemporary shape.
All materials are provided, and you will be shown options for backing and finishing the 7” hoop ready to hang. Suitable for ages 16+.
SAT 12th OCT
STRETCH WITH US: ARTIST-LED YOGA
Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, 10.30 am – 11.30 am
LYNNEBEC are thrilled to be leading a series of Stretch With Us: Artist-Led Yoga sessions. They will combine the joy of partner-based work, stretching and their approach to the body.
LYNNEBEC’s work is characterised by beautiful group choreography, strong visual aesthetics and humour. They will be bringing their infectious joy of movement into the realm of yoga at Coventry Biennial. Don’t forget to bring your own mat! Pay what you can on arrival. Suggested donation £5.
