Mother-makers from the region are invited to an anthotype art workshop on Sunday 20 August delivered by Coventry Biennial 2023 exhibiting artist and mother Janet Tryner in the wonderful location of Foundry Wood’s Outdoor Classroom in Leamington Spa.
Join us to explore the environment of the woodland and experiment with the anthotype technique.
Anthotypes are photographic silhouettes made with light-sensitive natural plant colours that fade in light. We will be making ours with blackberries! We will supply everything you need to make the anthotypes, however please bring a transparent polythene bag to take your artwork home with you and set up in the sun at home. This workshop involves an exploring walk and could be a bit messy so please wear clothes that you won’t mind getting dirty.
We will be in Foundry Wood’s Outdoor Classroom which has no running water, heating or electricity, so dress warmly for the weather and bring your own bottled water to drink. There is a compost toilet on site. We will bring extra loo roll and hand sanitiser.
Open to any kind of mother, and any kind of maker – a space where your care-giving and creative roles are treated with equal respect. Mothers Who Make events are adult focused however kids are totally welcome – child-friendly materials will be provided. Please make sure you are responsible for your own child’s safety when we are in the woodland and using art materials.

Foundry Wood is a green triangle of land between the railway lines and Princes Drive with a single entrance and exit gate on Princes Drive.

Access:
The path from the gates to the main part of the woodland takes you up a steep slope. Access is possible for those with mobility restrictions – we have installed a handrail and made the path ‘zig-zag’ through the woods to try and mitigate the steepness as much as possible. There is also a bench half way up the slope by the Railway Wagon to pause on your way around and another at the top of the slope by the climbing frame.
Once at the top of the slope, the path is wide and flat all the way around the woods.
We have a bike shelter just inside our gates, so we encourage visitors to cycle or walk to the woodland if possible.
There is no parking in the woods.
The nearest FREE carpark to the woods is located across the road at Victoria Park. Please note this is sometimes very busy in the summer.
