This is a workshop in two parts, participants must attend both sessions:
Part One: 7 October 2023, 1 – 4pm
Part Two: 24 November 2023, 1 – 4pm
Alternative maps aren’t required to represent space geographically as other kinds of mapping already do this. Instead they represent relations to space in other ways: how is it thought, felt, experienced? Mapping is an expression of control – of bodies moving in space – via representation. How can we use alternative features of mapping to guide ourselves and others into alternative ways of thinking about space?
Warwickshire-based artist Janet Tryner will lead this collaborative, hands-on session to make a range of site-responsive materials using a variety of experimental printmaking techniques.
The session will include a “ground-level investigation” to gather materials to be used in the session.
If you’d like to undertake some optional reading ahead of this workshop, please see the free PDF of ‘Mapping Emptiness: Cartographic Activations of Spaces’ by Roger Paez i Blanch which is available here.
Please note: This session will include spending some time outside, please dress appropriately.
Free, booking essential, donations welcome.
You must book onto both sessions.
