During Coventry Biennial 2023 artists exhibiting at the Old Grammar School interrogate humankind’s relationship to the world around us. 

Starting with the broad themes of place, the human condition and the intersection of these, artworks and projects are displayed throughout this historic city centre building making innovative use of non-traditional exhibition spaces.

Focusing on deep time, the ground-level and intergenerational activities, a number of projects explore what is or might be right under our feet. What is extracted from the earth is a common thread here as is what can be added to our public spaces, specifically focusing on the cultivation of urban gardens. Motherhood and its role in artistic practice is explored in a number of projects throughout this exhibition.

Buried, flowing, growing. Rising, extracted, discarded. Our relationships to the world around us are dense and tangled.
