RAFTS, 2023
RAFTS is the multimedia artist Rory Pilgrim‘s Turner Prize nominated community-based project that was realised in collaboration with eight Londoners from all walks of life.
This innovative film will be presented as a part of both the Screening Rights Film Festival and Coventry Biennial 2023. Following the screening there will be an opportunity to discuss the work and its associated themes through an informal in-conversation event.
Featuring songs, poems, stories and animation, RAFTS deals with the psychological turmoil caused by the recent global crises in an imaginative and soothing way. Using a form of expression most natural to them, each of the participants describes their own “raft”, the thing that keeps them afloat in the eye of the storm that is the overlapping of the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rory Pilgrim works in a wide range of media including songwriting, composing music, film, music video, text, drawing and live performances. Centred on emancipatory concerns, Rory aims to challenge the nature of how we come together, speak, listen and strive for social change through sharing and voicing personal experience.
