Mothers Who Make Coventry: Cyanotype workshop with Jo Gane

You are viewing an archived event. This event has already taken place.

Join local photographer, artist and mother Jo Gane for a relaxed and informal cyanotype printmaking session in the War Memorial park. The session will be adult focused but little people are very welcome to attend and join in too.

The cyanotype process involves using paper coated with light sensitive iron salts to produce prints with a distinctive Prussian blue colour. Prints can be made with natural materials foraged from around the park such as leaves and feathers – or feel free to bring objects with you to work with. If you are bringing materials to print from, small objects (no bigger than an A4 sheet) which can lie flat and are partially opaque work the best – lace and fabrics can be very effective. There will also be the opportunity to print from drawings onto acetate made with Sharpie pens. If you have an existing drawing you would like to print, please email it to Jo at least 1 week prior to the workshop and a negative can be pre-printed for you to work with.

Jo will be brining pre-coated cyanotype paper for ease of use out in the park, however instructions and support about how to coat paper and work with this process at home will also be provided.

Open to any kind of maker, and any kind of mother.

To book, please email motherswhomakecov@gmail.com

All events are Pay As You Feel – payment details shared following booking.

About Mothers Who Make Coventry

Mothers Who Make is a fast-growing international initiative aimed at supporting mothers who are artists. Every kind of maker is welcomed and every kind of mother.

For the past two years, the local Mothers Who Make hub in Coventry has been co-facilitated by local artist and mother, Adele Mary Reed. Over the past year she has facilitated the hub independently within a strong collective framework. Following a successful collaboration in 2019, we have renewed our partnership so that Adele can to continue deliver Mothers Who Make in the city.

Further information about the national Mothers Who Make network can be found here.
