You are viewing an archived event. This event has already taken place.

Join us at The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum to celebrate Midlands Art Papers’ new issue of their online journal. Hear from specialist speakers themed on inclusivity, disability and access in the arts.

Midlands Art Papers is a collaborative online journal, working between the Department of Art History, Curating and Visual Studies at the University of Birmingham, and 11 partner institutions to research and explore the world-class works of art and design in public collections across the region.

One issue of MAP is published each year, with contributions from museum professionals, academics and students. It features short essays on individual objects (Object in Focus), reviews, discussions of exhibitions in the region (On Exhibit), and detailed longer pieces to explore the collections in more depth and foreground their diversity and strengths (In Depth). This structure has been devised in collaboration with museum partners to best meet their needs.
The MAP blog provides regular updates on art news and exhibitions across the Midlands and is maintained by students and staff from the Department of Art History, Curating, and Visual Studies.
