Coventry Biennial Cycle Club: Blue is the Colour of Memory

Coventry Biennial Cycle Club is designed to connect people with artists and cultural institutions in Coventry and Warwickshire in a social way that benefits health, wellbeing and promotes mutual support.

During this meeting the Cycle Club will ride from Coventry Canal Basin and will cycle 11 miles along the canal following National Cycle Route 52. In Nuneaton, we will visit Blue is the Colour of Memory, an exhibition of work by Nuneaton-based artist Jo Gane who has spent the last 4 months working at Nuneaton Library with members of the public to produce a series of portraits about the local area.

Blue is the Colour of Memory has been commissioned by Coventry Biennial and Compton Verney Art Gallery and Park, made possible by funding from Arts Council England and Coventry City Council.

After seeing the exhibition we’ll cycle back to Coventry Canal Basin by the same route.

The Coventry Biennial Cycle Club is FREE and open to everyone, however, for your safety and the safety of the group, we ask that you observe the following rules and guidelines:

1. Ensure that your bike is road worthy, has lights and perhaps a bell.
2. Ensure that you wear a helmet at all times, as well as weather appropriate clothing.
3. Bring your own water, and other ride supplies (perhaps a phone, inner tube, pump and tool).

This event includes between 22 and 25 miles of cycling along canal towpaths and through public parks, there will be a small amount of riding on roads when we arrive in Nuneaton. It is worth noting that some sections of the towpaths are quite uneven.

Each meeting of the Coventry Biennial Cycle Club will be led by members of the Coventry Biennial team who will ensure that no one is left behind by the group, and that informal support is available along the route and at our destinations.

This event is not suitable for anyone under the age of 16. Participants under the age of 18 must be joined by a parent or guardian throughout the event (all attendees must hold tickets).

This event is generously funded by Arts Council England and Coventry City Council.

Coventry Biennial Cycle Club has been developed through research carried out as part of Spatial Practices in Art and Architecture for Empathetic Exchange (SPACEX) aproject that has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (RISE).
