The Pod is known for its vegan cuisine and determination to cultivate new ideas, connecting people and opportunities and nurturing change-makers in the city.
Edinburgh-based artist and ‘cosmoecologist’ Alix Villanueva is interested in the use of the strange and the folkloric within ecological thought.
As a part of her residency across The Pod’s diverse sites, she is presenting a short reading exploring her personal experience of the world while also co-existing within larger landscapes, and even larger notions of the cosmos including mythology, gods, folklore, ghosts, death and after-death.
Her storytelling presents a queer and sensual dance between a piece of seaweed, a mussel and a crab; the eroticism of a peat bog; the odd coupling of a technical lichen glossary and a fractured romance; a childhood memory of the anticipated hatching of twin lizard eggs and the horrors attached to the possibility of turning into a lizard herself…
This time, Alix will be reading an autobiographical text entitled “The Piano Lesson” which features vultures, mangoes and metronomes, “On Bathing,” which examines all of the author’s associations to bathtubs, and fragments of her latest work on gardens.
