Alix Villanueva, A Garden Phenomenology Film Still, 2019.

Edinburgh-based artist and ‘cosmoecologist’ Alix Villanueva is interested in the use of the strange and the folkloric within ecological thought.

As a part of her residency across The Pod’s diverse sites, she is presenting a screening of her new film “A Garden Phenomenology”.

This new work explores the garden through the primacy of phenomenology and the past, focusing on the five senses this film considers ways in which our bodies are the primary point of contact with the world around us.

The film is informed by the medieval tapestry “La Dame à la Licorne” which depicts a woman and a unicorn among a garden full of animals and plants.

This work investigates a possible sixth sense through the poetry of the garden, the insistence of ritual, and a different way of letting things grow…

An informal Q&A with the artist will follow the screening.
