FRKTL is the solo experimental project of British-Egyptian interdisciplinary artist and classically trained multiinstrumentalist Sarah Badr. Fusing together live sampling and improvisation, vocal manipulation, field recordings and generative rhythms, she composes immersive explorations of sound. Over the last two years, Badr has been working with biomorphic and procedural graphics inspired by natural scene topologies, as well as synthetic simulations and spatialised media exploring the association between form and place in new digital spaces.
Badr’s critically acclaimed sixth release and third full-length album as FRKTL, Excision After Love Collapses, marks nearly a decade of independent, self-published work. She has also been resident at Hong Kong Community Radio since 2020, where she presents a monthly show of genre-bending music from around the world.
Raised between London, Cairo, New York and Manama, she now lives and works in Riga.
Commissioned by Coventry Biennial and Coventry City of Culture with Art Fund support.
