Janet Tryner: Extraction

by Tegen Kimbley

At HERE, an event that we recently delivered with the University of Warwick we announced that we’d be working with Warwickshire-based artist Janet Tryner. During that event we launched Cracks in the Moon and Aliens in the Sand, a publication that she produced that can be read, downloaded and shared here.

Since that event Janet has been busy developing her new project, we joined her as she collected a piece of waste material that she has been returning to for 5 years, over that time it had become deeply embedded in the woodland floor.

Ryan Hughes (Artistic Director and CEO) says:

“I’ve known Janet and her practice for a number of years and so having the opportunity to work with her on the development of this new project has been a pleasure. It was particularly exciting to join her in the woodlands of Warwickshire as she finally retrieved this ‘thing’ that has held her attention and fascination for so long”

Watch as she conducts a “ground-level investigation” to collect the object that will be at the centre of an ambitious new installation at Coventry Biennial 2023:
