On Sunday 12 March, mothers and care-givers from the region were invited to a dahlia tuber potting workshop in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum’s garden space.
The workshop was part of Mothers Who Make a Garden, a new artwork for Coventry Biennial 2023, and was guided by Coventry-based mother and gardener Alice Wood.
Fifteen dahlia tubers were planted into pots which were taken home and are being nurtured following the session by the participants ready for blooming in the summer. Some of the types of dahlia that were planted included Art Fair, Café au Lait, Sarasota Joy, Myrtle’s Folly and Kelsey Sunshine.
Mothers Who Make events are adult-focused however children are always welcome. The dahlia workshop forms part of a series of workshops led by different mother makers in the local area which will focus on sharing a range of creative garden related skills. Upcoming workshops to be announced soon.
